Certified Pilates Instructor

Eric is a Licensed Massage Therapist since 1995. He graduated from the New Mexico Academy of Healing Arts in Santa Fe, N.M. and continues his education every year.  Eric is also  a Certified Pilates Instructor since 2002. He did his initial certification with Polestar Pilates and has done many advanced workshops and trainings with master instructors since. Eric has worked with many thousands of people of all walks of life; all ages, activities, injuries, imbalances, limitations, and lifestyles.

Massage therapy alone is wonderful. Pilates and movement exploration is fantastic and freeing. Combining those tailored movements along with massage therapy and breath connection/education creates a dynamic awareness and healing response beyond any one of those pieces alone. Go ahead and take a few slow deep breaths right now, sit up tall, and roll your head and shoulders around. See how much better you feel already?

“I look at where and why someone has a limitation of movement, pain, and/ or imbalance in their body and help them restore as much balance, mobility, and wellness as possible.” -Eric Funderburk

Testimonials

I have been fortunate in having benefited from the work of several very gifted massage therapists over the years, and Eric certainly ranks among the best. Unfailingly professional, he combines deft technique with intuitive skill, compassion, and gentle humor. I have especially appreciated how he has used Pilates stretches (a passion he gladly shares) to enrich and deepen my experience on the table. What a great massage: every time!

I have been working with Eric for six years, and Eric's work with me has made all the difference in my strength, posture, flexibility, energy, and pain reduction. His unique and integrative approach to bodywork utilizing the Pilates Reformer, massage, breathing, therapeutic movement, and fine-tuned specific stretching has done more for me than chiropractic care, acupuncture, yoga, Swedish massage, and the gym combined. I can confidently say that Eric's knowledge, expertise, applied experience, and uncanny ability to pinpoint specific origins of pain and imbalance is invaluable to me and irreplaceable. I highly recommend his services!

I hate exercise…..but I do like having my life back!  After living with chronic pain for 8 years, I found myself on Eric’s doorstep with a glimmer of hope hidden by a bad attitude.  I grudgingly committed myself to 6 months of pilates, after which I vowed to be “out of there” if things weren’t better.

I had no idea the impact that Eric and his pilates instruction would have on my life. Eric has now been instructing, encouraging, and motivating me for the past 3 years. I have regained strength and movement that most people take for granted and that I previously thought were lost to me. My initial “glimmer of hope” has grown into a smile in my spirit every time I am able to ride my bike or go on small hikes with my family.  And while I still don’t like exercise, I have to say that my spirit also smiles every time I am able to complete a pilates maneuver that 3 years ago I thought was impossible for me.

Approximately 10 months ago I suffered a fairly significant left hamstring strain and as part of a
recommended therapy from my orthopedist, I went to Skyfall Therapy in Brentwood and met with Eric Funderburk, a certified Massage Therapist and Pilates Instructor.

Eric is extremely knowledgeable with all the various muscle groups and focused on a Pilates therapy workout routine to address the issues with my hamstring and surrounding muscles. Prior to this I had never done Pilates and am an active Masters swimmer with UCLA.

Slowly but surely, I began to see improvement with my condition as mentioned. In the beginning it was hard for me to even walk and now after 10 months I am walking freely with no pain. I frankly thought that I would need surgery but was able to avoid it due to Eric’s incredible expertise.

As I had mentioned, I had never done any type of Pilates before, and aside from the benefits to my hamstring, I also noticed that my swim workouts started to change dramatically. Eric’s expertise improved my swimming posture, alignment and flexibility in the pool to where I have become a more efficient and fast swimmer. Having been on and off with swimming during my hamstring injury, I was absolutely amazed as to how I was using my core with my swimming stroke, especially freestyle. My dryland workouts of elliptical, walking and hiking also dramatically improved.

I would highly recommend Eric to anyone interested in Pilates for workouts as well as Pilates Therapy for rehabbing injuries.
